Sun

Our nearest star

Meet the Sun, our nearest star! It looks like a small circle in the sky, but it is much bigger than Earth. The Sun is made of very hot material. Deep inside, energy is produced and travels out as light and warmth. That warmth helps trees grow, warms the seas, and welcomes a new day.

Eight planets travel around the Sun. An invisible pull called gravity keeps them following their paths, called orbits. The Sun spins too. Scientists study it with special telescopes and spacecraft. Never look straight at the Sun with your eyes: its bright light can hurt them.

In the planetarium you can spin this world and look at it from every side.
